Australasian Cinema

I taught a unit called Australian Cinema at Murdoch University for ten years until I retired at the end of 2008. Apart from the contiguous classes - lecture and tutorials - the whole unit was effectively on the internet. Even the lectures - which I prefer to think of as presentations - were on the net in outline form, and so were sets of questions for each tutorial.

In addition to those materials, I also provided a large number of resources, mostly in the form of film lists. The approach I took to teaching OzCin, and in writing the book which I used as the 'textbook' - Ten Types of Australian Film - was through genre, different types of film. I therefore provided a large number of lists of films, organised by a single principle.

It occurred to me that this material might be useful to others, and I started to put some of the lists here. So the unit website (which is not available) has been cannibalised and transferred here. I would be very grateful to hear that anyone at all is even looking at this stuff, let alone finding it useful. I'll put my email address at the end in a form that a human will be able to interpret, tho not a crawler.

A technical point. This should have been a database from the outset. As it is, if I add one film, I may have to paste it into six different files. However, I don't know how to write a database, and anyway it's a bit late, as there are hundreds of films here, details of each of which would have to be re-entered individually.
